We won't lie: Our inner ten-year-old squealed with joy when we first saw that.In both cases, the technology houses something unexpected, and this imagery thematically extends beyond the tech. At the top, the criminal reveals its extraterrestrial nature to Jay, even though he doesn't know what to make of it at first. They don't want one or need one either. Chinese, Mexicans, Italians, and Greeks, to name but a few, have travelled from their native countries to call New York home. This is not a film about superheroes, but the adventures of a couple of hard-working functionaries whose assignment is to keep tabs on the sizable alien population of the United States.Their biggest problem materializes when a flying saucer strikes the truck of a hillbilly named Edgar (The running gag in the movie is that almost anyone could be an alien; the film begins on the Mexican border, where Jones takes charge of a group of lawmen who have nabbed some illegal aliens and picks out the one who is really an alien: a fantastical, blobby bug-eyed monster with a realistic human face mask.The special effects are by Industrial Light and Magic, and the aliens are by Rick Baker, perhaps Hollywood's greatest creator of monsters. Life in nature is basically like a never-ending Black Friday door buster sale with death your only respite.In Hobbes' view, people formed government to provide a Well, the Men in Black provide all of these functions for the refugee extraterrestrial community of Earth, and in exchange for that the extraterrestrials give up certain liberties to the Men in Black. The delight of the movie is discovering the quirky answers to the questions posed by the title.Most science fiction films might decide this is a fine place to roll the credits, but while this classic ending concludes the story, it doesn't wrap up the development of its characters. Unfortunately, Zed and Kay don't understand the message and believe Jay must have heard him wrong.

As a NYPD detective, he's running down a perp who did, um, something, and Jay must arrest him because… laws? As Zed notes, ZED: We're not hosting an intergalactic kegger down here.The aliens also can't expose themselves to humans because humans would simply freak out, and the agency is trying to keep the peace.Any extraterrestrial that doesn't recognize and accept the Men in Black's authority is punished. We don't think so. Also, any alien coming to Earth has to register their comings and goings with the Men in Black. Without suspension of disbelief, it would be impossible to seriously consider these concepts or their deeper meanings.Enter comedy. Here he goes hog wild.

A giant alien—well, giant from our perspective—is playing marbles with our universe's ball and another housing a different universe. Um… yeah, not much to report here.
