Definite parallels to The Wicker Man, in my view anyway, drawing some of the best aspects of the older and newer incarnations. Director's previous Hereditary was a standout, but this is on a level higher again. Sweden? I lived in Finland mot of my life and went over there. Never seen such an upsetting film. Ari Aster has made a beautiful film of it. Although the Director claims this film was inspired by a relationship break up, it is clear that a lot of inspiration must have come from The Wicker Man (a cult 1970s British film, which still shocks to this day). A quality film from a talented director of very disturbing subject matter. It terrified me and was very effective in what it did. This writer/director also did the movie Hereditary which I would also give only one star.
